The Big Apple

Today is Thanksgiving Day. I still haven’t really figured out what it’s all about, but it’s the true start of the Holiday season. Today Sander and me went to the Top of the Rock (Rockafeller Centre) and did our GPNY-thingy. I’m almost tempted to like it here, now everything is beautifully ornamented and
people are in a festive mood. The day started with the tradiotional Thanksgiving Parade at Broadway. That was kinda cool. I also found a nice Armani Exchange shop which was very cheap. But since I don’t like Armani that much (although the Exchange line had some nice stuff), I didn’t buy anything.
Actually, we wanted to see the Statue of Liberty today, but since it’s Thanksgiving, it was closed. Too bad. Ah well, I’ll probabely come back to NYC some day (although I’m definately not in a hurry).

At the moment I’m in an internetcafe in NYC. It’s freezin’ cold outside, a striking contrast to the sunny warmths of Rio. Although I was looking forward to visit New York City very much, I can’t help but just feeling a little sad.
I miss the people of Paracambi, I miss the beautiful weather, the laid-back attitude of the people and witnessing the powerful movement of God. I miss the beautiful nature and falling asleep in my hangmat while the birds chirp in the background.
New York is so loud, noisy, cold and superficial by comparisson. Everything screams for your attention, but once you look, there’s nothing worth of looking. It’s irritating.
By the way, did I tell you about the Brasilian people singing? Man! They can sing. Really, words cannot describe the fullness, the passion, the power that overwhelmes you when they open their voices in one accord. It really brought tears to my eyes.
When I get home, I’ll let you folks hear one song that’s sort of become the anthem of the Brasilian trip.
I was also very impressed with br. John. I’ve never seen this man of God more at home than on the mission field preaching the gospel. I’ve known br. John for more than 20 years now, but I’ve never seen him like this. It’s really cool.
He asked me if I wanted to come to Pakistan with him, next april. I’d really love that, a great honour, so I hope everything can be arranged.

@Cesar ben sinds gisterochtend weer terug. Morgen weer werken :(
@Coen NYC was ook erg koud, alleen was het zo te horen niet zulk noodweer als hier. Maar goed, we gingen van 30 graden naar 2 graden, dus het was erg genoeg :)
